Dr Hollie-Ann Shortland
(PhD, B.Sp. Path., B.A., CPSP)
Hollie-Ann is a certified practicing Speech Pathologist and the director of Vagus Speech Pathology. She has 19 years’ experience in providing high level Speech Pathology care to adults presenting with swallowing and communication disorders in both the public and private sectors. Further, Hollie lectures and provides clinical education in the areas of swallowing, voice and practice education for Speech Pathology students through the University of Newcastle.
Hollie’s experience over her Speech Pathology career so far has extended clinically across the areas of head & neck surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, trauma, aged care, palliative care, respiratory and general medicine caseloads. However, her clinical expertise is in the area of complex swallowing disorders (including assessment with Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS)), voice/laryngeal dysfunction (including chronic cough, upper airway disorders) and Laryngectomy (voice prosthesis management/replacement) and Tracheostomy care.
It is a combination of Hollie’s clinical work over the past 19 years and her passion for improving the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties that has also led her to further pursue higher studies with her completion of a Doctor of Philosophy (Speech Pathology) through the University of Newcastle in 2023.
